It takes a village...

About a year ago, a few men took out a couple of young guys to talk about being men. They hiked in the woods and along a small river, enjoying what God put in that place. This is a new tradition at Collingswood Church of Christ, but an old concept. You've heard "it takes a village to raise a man", or some variation of that, I'm sure. There were no father-son combos on this hike, just men of the village handing down some words of wisdom (hopefully).

Why do we hand down the Word of God from generation to generation?

"..so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live...and so that you may enjoy long life." Deut 6:2

Be Strong and Courageous

Do not be afraid, the Lord goes with you, He will never leave you nor forsake you.
It was a Man's Breakfast this morning. 30 strong!

The message was somewhat spontaeous, but sharp:
Men, we are all leaders in some form. We can't all be Joshua being commissioned by Moses, but we are all commissioned by the Lord. Be aware of those in your life who are mentoring you, and be aware of those you are mentoring--whether that was by decision or not.

Enjoy the day.
Sharpen your sword.
Be strong and courageous and do not be afraid.

If you are offering your gift...

Have you offended your brother? Do you realize how important it is to resolve conflicts when they arise?
Jesus said if you are offering your gift at the altar and suddenly remember that your brother has something against you....
"Leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift." Matt 5:24

Your relationship with God, your acceptable gift of worship, depends on your relationship with your brother. What if Cain understood that...what if I understand that?

Linger in God's presence

Are you a Leader? Are you in training to be a Leader?
If its your time to lead, "Be strong and courageaous. Do not be terrified..for the Lord your God goes with you." Deut 31:6

If its not quite time for you to lead, but you know its coming..then linger in His presence, near the leaders. "Moses set out with Joshua his aide, and Moses went up on the mountain of God. He said to the elders, 'Wait here for us until we come back to you.'" Ex 24:13,14

Make your contact with Christ strong. He will never leave you nor forsake you.
